ONE OF MY FAVORITE SELF-HELP TOOLS

Picture
One reason I love Human Design is because it so eloquently and accurately reveals a person's decision making process.

When I had my first Human Design reading about 6 years ago, it was unlike any other kind of reading I'd ever had. It went deeper, and way more specific than astrology (even though I still love and follow some astrology). It gave me immediate, tangible navigation tools to experiment with.

For example, my decision making process, in part, entails responding to invitations from deep in my belly as either a non-verbal, rising "get up and go" feeling (yes!), a non-verbal sinking and deflating balloon feeling (no), or an unresponsive feeling where I don't feel inspired or not inspired (we can call this answer "not now, ask me again later").

Does that sound like you? You're probably a "Generator" type in this system.

When I walked away from that first reading, I decided I'd try to "follow my design" for a month to see what happened.

This was simple, but not easy, because part of my process involves listening to my feeling clarity that comes in and evolves ...over time.

Making commitments before I have my feeling clarity doesn't align with how I operate. (This is the emotional authority in Human Design, if you're curious.)

I had to learn and practice responding to invitations with something like, "Can I answer you in a few days?"

I was willing to take a risk and do things differently as an experiment. I chose to be ALL IN and follow the mysterious and even outright outrageous information I got about my design, in order to learn and grow.

Some of my friends didn't necessarily like it when my immediate availability shifted, so I had to navigate the impact I was having by making a change.

But ultimately, I immediately experienced this process resonating with ME, a lot.

Learning to accept invitations in my own organic timing gave me more energy and ease, less anxiety and overwhelm, and much more peace!

I felt incredibly relieved to understand these aspects of my design and how to apply them in my day-to-day life.
After the initial month, I continued to commit myself to experiment with the information I got from my reading, and the overall big picture of how I live my life literally changed, for the better and better...

I became a Human Design enthusiast. I studied and read charts for all my friends, lovers, and even some patients at my acupuncture clinic.

I consistently saw this system as totally genius.

As I went into deeper layers of my chart, it helped me honor who I am in very specific and significant ways. I got incredible direction in my life because my chart very clearly depicted my gifts and areas of passion. It helped me focus my energy on these things, and let other things go, that weren't really me but more about conditioning.

I helped friends do the same.

So, I continued on to professional training from a seasoned Human Design master, Chetan Parkyn. His deeply empowering approach made Human Design immediately applicable in a rich way, and resonated with me more than any other teacher or organization I looked into.

My fascination remains consistent. (a consistent "yes" is relevant to my Human Design )

Over the last couple years, when a new coaching relationship begins, I minimally look at their Human Design before we start our work together, (I might also give them a reading). Just reviewing their chart helps me see how I can best work with their energy, passion, purpose, mind, gut, emotions, expression, intuition, gifts, as well as where they likely struggle with conditioning or codependency. If I give them a reading, it becomes an integral and empowering part of how we work together.

I continue to find Human Design to be reliable and almost eerily accurate, and now, so do my clients. It cuts through what could takes years to reveal and unfold.

So, when I planned the Ignite Your Desire program, {which started THIS week.!!!}, I integrated a Human Design reading for each woman, specifically about how they make decisions, at the beginning of the program.

I then gave the women in the program a practice of writing a daily inventory that tracks when they used their design to make decisions, when they didn't, and the outcomes of both.

I asked them to pay attention and write about how it lands in their body when they use their design, and when they don't. What are the impacts on mood, energy, inspiration, outlook, and then, the actual direct results of whatever they were deciding to do or not do...

Example of not following design:

My sister asked me to help her with "x", I immediately felt a sinking feeling in my belly but said yes anyway because I felt guilty. I felt anxious and dreaded helping her for the days leading up to the event. When I was helping her, I felt tired and irritated, even though I thought I was doing the right thing. I needed to rest the following day.

Example of following design:

My sister asked me to help with "x". I immediately felt a sinking feeling in my belly. Although I wanted to be helpful, I said no because I chose to trust my felt sense, even though it was a bit scary. I felt relieved after I said no and knew it was right, because my plate was full and if I had extended myself further, I wouldn't have had the energy or mood to sustain myself. My sister told me a few days later that things on her end changed and it was actually better that I didn't come over.

I'm so excited for the Ignite Your Desire group call next week, to see what the women learned about themselves in the context of their decision making process.

PS: I'm using the gut response and emotional authority as examples throughout this post, but there are many different ways people make decisions based on Human Design.
